Doesn't keep screen off while proximity sensor still covered

Concern:

Lock the phone > Turn on screen > cover the sensor > screen is successfully locked by Pocket Mode

then

Turn on the screen again WHILE proximity sensor STILL covered > screen isn't locked unless you uncover and cover the sensor again.

I got "double tap to wake screen" enabled on mu phone. And app successfully locks my phone for the first attempt but unsuccessful after later screen ons while sensor continuously covered.

Similar issue here. Android 13. Poco F5 miui 14. Hardware IR proximity sensor. In the in app test it works fine but you can still access the lock screen fully when sensor covered. I am more than happy to help troubleshoot it as clearly Xiaomi cannot even be bothered to get it working right.
