Yes, HELM chart v1.7.0 (which relates to DD v2.51.0) contains values.schema.json. It is part of following the best practices of using the HELM chart. The schema is there mainly to validate the syntax of the used values. It is especially useful when a change in the chart would manifests using older versions of values.

I'm not sure what you exactly mean by "requires setting values for even unused variables". The values.yaml file (in the chart) contains default values. It is expected that users might override those values but with their own values.yaml file (or with --set CLI parameter).

For example, if django.mediaPersistentVolume.enabled: false it still requires the other variables in django.mediaPersistentVolume to be set, even if they're unused
