Wyncrest was originally built under the working name "Nexus," and later "Homecrest," before settling on its current name. A handful of internal, never-user-visible identifiers still use the original name, because renaming them would risk breaking existing local data, such as saved login sessions or cached results.
| Identifier | Where it appears | Why it was kept |
|---|---|---|
The nexus_ login token prefix |
Internal token storage | Renaming would invalidate every existing login session |
The nexus.* browser storage keys |
Frontend local storage | Renaming would lose a returning user's saved preferences |
The --nexus-* style variables |
Frontend styling | Purely an internal naming detail, invisible to users |
The nexus-frontend package name |
Frontend project configuration | A cosmetic detail with no user-facing effect |
| The "NexusCard" component name | Internal frontend code | A naming detail in shared UI code, invisible to users |
The nexus:{environment}:... cache key format |
Backend analytics caching | Renaming would silently invalidate cached results on deploy |
The NEXUS_SEED_MODE environment variable |
Local and deployment configuration, as a fallback only | Kept so existing setups do not break; WYNCREST_SEED_MODE is the current name |
None of these are shown to a user anywhere in the product.
