Formant processing causes the screen to slow down on refreshing. While it is true that vocal processing is the most important thread, it appears that when processing formant, some botton presses can get lost, and it can be hard to get the system to recognize that you are trying to toggle formant off even.
Speed up the formant enough so that the we don't lose any botton presses when it is on.
