After reinstalling code-server using brew, it returned to normal. However, Homebrew is no longer willing to continue supporting versions 4.113.0 and later. What's going on?

Does the fact that it's deprecated because it uses non-FOSS mean that future versions of code-server can no longer be installed via brew?

code-server v4.116.0 has GitHub Copilot built-in, which allows using AI Features without having to install the GitHub Copilot extension¹. According to #7754 (comment), the installation pulls in the Copilot SDK.

@code-asher If this [SDK] is non-FOSS, is it then permitted to bundle it with code-server – which is under the MIT license?

If this is not permitted, the integration of GitHub Copilot into code-server must be prevented in some way.

I am not sure if the dependencies have to be FOSS for the repo license to be MIT, but I am not a lawyer. 🤔

Although if the license terms say it can only be used in Microsoft builds then it does seem like we would have to strip it out. I was looking at the sdk license but was not seeing anything like that https://github.com/github/copilot-cli/blob/main/LICENSE.md

I think the old copilot vsix maybe have been licensed this way, but the new built-in extension code seems to be MIT https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/blob/main/extensions/copilot/LICENSE.txt

Maybe we could provide a way to build code-server without copilot for Homebrow or something like that.

Regarding the license terms: IMHO no issue for code-server here. Homebrew reverted to v4.112.0 because

This is considered non-FOSS and unacceptable in Homebrew/core as it does not meet https://docs.brew.sh/License-Guidelines
