- Please tell us about yourself (include an email address):
My name is MD Nafizul Iqram, a software engineer and frontend-focused full-stack developer based in Bangladesh. I am building a free, non- commercial, educational Islamic knowledge project focused on making reliable Quran and Hadith resources more accessible to Bangla-speaking users.
Email: nafizulikram3@gmail.com
- Your purpose in using this API:
I am developing a Bangla-first Islamic knowledge and research application that will use Hadith data for search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), citation, and educational purposes.
The goal is to provide users with reliable, properly attributed Hadith references while preserving the original Arabic text, English translations, collection/book/chapter information, canonical references, and available grading information.
Sunnah.com will be clearly attributed as the source, with links back to the corresponding Hadith pages wherever applicable.
I would like to use the API during development and for programmatic retrieval, while also requesting an offline data dump so the corpus can be ingested, indexed, and embedded locally rather than repeatedly requesting thousands of individual Hadith records.
-
API rate limits:
- Maximum requests per second:: 5
- Maximum requests per day: : 10,000
These limits are sufficient for development, testing, synchronization, and occasional programmatic lookups. I am happy to follow any lower limits or usage requirements you recommend.
-
Is your use case better served by having an offline dump of hadith data or programmatic API access?
I would benefit from both, with the offline dump being the primary requirement for the corpus.
The offline dump would allow me to ingest and index the Hadith corpus once for search and RAG, while API access would be useful for development, verification, synchronization, and retrieving individual references when needed.
If only one option can be provided, I would prefer the offline dump, but I would greatly appreciate access to both.
-
What are the languages in which would you like hadith data?
Arabic and English at minimum — Arabic as the canonical matn for search,
deduplication, and display, English as the reference translation and as the
bridge language for review.
I would also like to ask whether any Bengali hadith data exists in your
corpus, even partially.
-
What programming language will your API client be in?
TypeScript, using a Node.js-based application.
