View several videos / images side by side in VS Code or Cursor, and play them all from 0 with one click — no rewinding each one by hand.
Grid shape follows the count: 6 → 3×2, 4 → 2×2, 9 → 3×3, 12 → 4×3, and 1–3 sit in a single row.
Two ways in, same result:
- Media panel — click the grid icon in the left activity bar, tick the files you want, then hit ▶ in the panel's title bar.
- Explorer — multi-select files (⌘-click / shift-click), right-click → Open in Video Grid.
In the grid: Play all from 0, Pause all, Reset to 0, plus loop and
audio toggles. Every tile also keeps its own native play/pause/scrub bar, so
you can drive one clip independently. Audio starts muted — six soundtracks at
once is noise.
Clicking a filename in the Media panel opens that one file on its own.
Grab the .vsix off the repo's Releases page, then:
cursor --install-extension video-grid-0.0.1.vsix
# or: code --install-extension video-grid-0.0.1.vsixOr in the app: Extensions panel → ··· → Install from VSIX…
This extension is plain JS, so the repo is the installable artifact:
git clone <repo-url> ~/.cursor/extensions/video-grid
# VS Code instead: ~/.vscode/extensions/video-gridRestart the editor. Update later with git pull + Developer: Reload Window.
node grid.js # layout self-checkPress F5 in this folder to launch a second editor window with the extension
loaded.
To cut a release:
npm i -g @vscode/vsce
vsce package # -> video-grid-0.0.1.vsix- Playback uses the editor's built-in Chromium, so codec support is Chromium's:
MP4/H.264, WebM, and most
.movfiles work;.mkvand exotic codecs may not. - Clips of different lengths freeze on their last frame rather than looping,
unless you tick
loop.
