D1 and U8 can not tolerate VUSB > 5 V.
This means if you connect a power supply capable of USB-PD (> 5 V),
it will kill D1, U8 and the FTDI chip (don't ask me how I know).
The work-around is very simple: make sure there is a solder-blob on JP1, which will limit VUSB to 5 V.
