Fixes #34, Fixes #40, Fixes #42

Summary

This PR resolves an issue where valid keyboxes (such as recent YuriKey releases) are rejected during keybox fetch / keybox validate.

Problem

  1. SEC1 format private keys: Some keybox sources provide EC private keys in SEC1 format (-----BEGIN EC PRIVATE KEY-----). Previously, validate_full only attempted PKCS#8 parsing (from_pkcs8_pem), marking the key as Mismatched.
  2. Cross-curve ECDSA signatures (P-384 + SHA-256): In certificate chains where an intermediate or root certificate uses a P-384 key to sign a child certificate with ECDSA-SHA256, ring lacked the verifier and rejected the signature as unsupported.
  3. Graceful fallback for unparseable private keys: Unparseable or proprietary private key formats previously failed the whole validation report with KeyMatch::Mismatched instead of KeyMatch::Skipped.

Changes

  • Added SEC1 decoding fallback in try_match_p256 and try_match_p384 using sec1::DecodeEcPrivateKey.
  • Added p384::ecdsa prehash verification for OID_ECDSA_SHA256 when the signer's curve is P-384.
  • Changed unparseable private key handling to KeyMatch::Skipped so structural XML/cert validity is still preserved.
  • Verified on real Android 12 device (APatch + TEESimulator-rs).

Explanation

The changes address the linked keybox failures by adding P-384 ECDSA-SHA256 verification and SEC1 EC-key handling. The implementation does not meet the required failure behavior from [#42]. The reviewed validation logic reports a non-empty but unparseable private key as KeyMatch::Mismatched, and the regression summary confirms that this rejects the keybox. Such a parse failure must report KeyMatch::Skipped so valid XML, certificate-chain, and certificate-validity checks can determine the result. This behavior affects the fetch and activation failures in [#34] and [#40].

Resolution

Return KeyMatch::Skipped for non-empty private keys that the parser cannot decode, while retaining the parse error in the report. Keep KeyMatch::Mismatched for a successfully parsed private key that does not match the leaf certificate. Update the regression test to verify that an otherwise valid keybox remains valid when private-key parsing is skipped.

Add a P-384 ECDSA-SHA256 certificate-link regression test. The existing ecdsa_p256_self_signed_link_verifies test covers only the P-256 branch. No test or fixture reaches verify_signature when OID_ECDSA_SHA256 is paired with OID_CURVE_P384. A regression in P-384 public-key parsing, SHA-256 prehashing, or DER-signature verification can therefore pass the current test suite. Add a valid P-384 certificate-link fixture and assert successful validation. Add an invalid-signature case to ensure the link is rejected.

Add SEC1 PEM regression tests for both curves. The P-256 and P-384 matching paths now accept SEC1 PEM only through from_sec1_pem. Tests must cover SEC1 fixtures for both curves so a regression to PKCS#8-only parsing cannot silently reject valid SEC1 keyboxes.

Add P-384 SEC1 regression coverage.

The current test only parses the P-256 SEC1 fixture and calls try_match_p256. It does not exercise the SEC1 fallback in try_match_p384. Add a valid P-384 SEC1 fixture, derive its SPKI, and assert that try_match_p384 returns Some(KeyMatch::Matched).
