It is recommended to use the '-e' option when installing (editable mode),
together with the optional dependency groups needed for development:

| ``pip install -e .[dev]``
| ``pip install -e .[dev,ui,docs]``

The available optional dependency groups are:

- ``dev``: testing and formatting tools (``pytest``, ``pytest-cov``, ``pytest-xvfb``, ``ruff``).
- ``ui``: GUI dependencies (``ttkthemes``). Skip it on systems without Tkinter.
- ``docs``: tools needed to build this documentation locally (``sphinx`` and its extensions).

All dependencies are declared in ``pyproject.toml``, which is the single source of truth
(the documentation build on Read the Docs also installs from it). Most dependencies are capped
at their current major version (minor version for ``0.x`` packages); when bumping a cap,
make sure the test suite still passes.

If your dev system allows it, install also openmc in the same python environment.

Presume intentional.. but should we pin to a version to avoid drift in linting etc?

yeah it was intentional since ruff iterates pretty fast on v0.X releases... let's see, if it starts to be an issue we'll cap it.

Major · Stability & Availability · Quick win

Handle timeouts during the full GitLab fetch.

The new timeout applies to project listing and archive download, but the RequestException handler covers only gl.auth(). If either later request times out, fetch_from_gitlab() raises instead of returning False. This can interrupt JadeApp.update_inputs(), which expects a false result for a failed F4E fetch. Extend the request-error handling to both later calls. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @src/jade/app/fetch.py at line 98:
Extend the RequestException handling in fetch_from_gitlab() to cover both
project listing and archive download, returning False when either request times
out or otherwise fails with a request exception, as the existing authentication
failure path does.
