Kobel: you decide what your AI may do with your files

Kobel is a desktop app for Windows and macOS. It sits between your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT and others) and the files on your computer.

For every file or folder, you choose one of five levels:

Level What the AI can do
Edit change the file
Edit with backup change the file, Kobel keeps a copy of the old version
Edit a copy work on a copy, your original stays untouched
Read only look, but not change
Hidden the AI does not see it at all

Kobel runs a local MCP server. Everything stays on your computer. There is no cloud, and an activity log shows what the AI did.
