A Home Assistant custom integration that connects to the Open Glider
Network live feed and tracks specific gliders
you choose, showing each as a device_tracker entity on the map.
- Live position updates streamed from OGN's APRS-IS feed (no polling).
- Add gliders by their 6-character FLARM/OGN device ID, or discover gliders currently flying near your Home Assistant instance and pick from a list.
- Friendly names and aircraft info are resolved automatically from the OGN Device Database (DDB) when available.
- Each tracked glider becomes unavailable if it hasn't reported a position within a configurable timeout (default 10 minutes).
- In Home Assistant, go to HACS → Integrations → ⋮ → Custom repositories.
- Add
https://github.com/Merlan1/ha-ognas an Integration. - Install OGN Glider Tracker from HACS, then restart Home Assistant.
Copy custom_components/ogn_flarm into your Home Assistant config/custom_components/
directory and restart Home Assistant.
- Go to Settings → Devices & Services → Add Integration and search for OGN Glider Tracker.
- Complete the one-field setup (an identifier used to connect to the OGN feed — any short alphanumeric string works, no ham radio license needed).
- Open the integration's Configure options to add gliders:
- Add a glider by ID — enter its 6-character FLARM/OGN device ID.
- Discover nearby gliders — listens to OGN traffic around your Home Assistant instance's configured location for a short window and lets you pick from what it saw.
v1 exposes device_tracker entities only (position, altitude, speed,
course, climb rate as attributes). Dedicated sensor entities, HACS default
store submission, and automated tests are not included yet.
