Summary

training maps need to disable specific Akron tools without replacing the player's saved settings. this adds a map-authored policy inside Akron, so a map doesn't have to patch its internals or rely on players turning things off.

  • place Akron/featureRestrictions in Lönn and list exact AkronFeatureKind names in features, e.g. Freeze,FrameAdvance,Timescale. declarations across every room form one map-side policy, including markers in rooms the player hasn't visited.
  • enforce that policy at actions and runtime effects, including overlay controls, hotkeys, commands, HUD/capture paths and Akron's optional-mod integration writes. saved preferences stay intact. leaving the map releases Akron-owned state without repeatedly overwriting another mod's values.
  • expose policy version, restricted identities and effective decisions through AkronPolicy and akron_status. document the authoring contract and add coverage in the existing policy and StartPos suites.
  • move StartPos snapshots to akron-reconstruction-v12 so restored state distinguishes Akron-owned slowdown from the map's clock. older StartPos snapshots must be captured again. slot positions, spawn settings and keybinds are unaffected.

this governs Akron, not independent commands in other mods. it is not an anti-cheat sandbox. each listed feature identity is independent.

feature type: map-authored runtime policy, not a new player toggle.

Verification

  • The diff is scoped to one goal.
  • Public docs are updated when user-facing behavior changes.
  • CHANGELOG.md is updated for notable user-facing changes.
  • Feature policy docs and registry tests are updated when feature classification changes.
  • Tests are added or updated when behavior, persistence, archive shape, policy, or setup defaults change.
  • Live Celeste/Everest verification evidence is included when unit tests cannot prove the behavior.
  • Screenshots or video are included for visible, input-driven, timing-sensitive, rendering-sensitive, capture-related, or gameplay-facing changes.
  • The pull request does not commit secrets, local tokens, personal config files, local captures, or machine-specific paths.

Checks run

agent-run verification used an isolated Raft container on the configured machine. the full suite ran as an unprivileged akron-test account with a separate temporary directory. the branch is rebased onto the merged Menu Mouse feature.

  • release solution build with CI references: passed, 0 warnings and 0 errors.
  • repository-scoped format check: passed.
  • targeted policy, Menu Mouse and fixture tests: 332 passed, 0 failed, 0 skipped.
  • Raft full suite before the native-binding rebase: 2,036 passed, 0 failed, 0 skipped.
  • latest head, including the native-binding editor fix: 2,045 passed, 0 failed, 0 skipped locally with native game references and their runtime dependencies.
  • packaged archive integrity: passed, including the Lönn entity.

the community catalog fixture now keeps its download URL inside the test's temporary directory. the pacing test observes the worker entering its wait instead of assuming six fixed wait periods. production catalog and pacing behavior are unchanged. tests using stripped game references now pass state explicitly rather than constructing a fake module.

Live verification

  • maps: AkronPolicyProbe/unrestricted and AkronPolicyProbe/restricted, using a throwaway fixture outside the repository. the restriction marker sits outside the starting room.
  • runtime: Celeste 1.4.0.0, Everest 6623 stable, .NET 8.0.15, Extended Variant Mode 0.51.0 and Motion Smoothing 1.8.1.
  • package: first built in Raft; the latest rebased package was built locally with native game references, then launched in a network-isolated native Linux game copy. the daily-driver game and saves were not used.
  • setup: freeze, timescale and invincibility configured before entry; separate EVM and Motion Smoothing writes established before suppression and ownership-release checks.
  • steps: enter both maps; attempt denied commands and overlay actions; check saved clock restoration and invalid numeric snapshots; die; transition rooms; reload; save and quit; reenter; restart the chapter; leave the restricted map; change independently owned integration values; unload Akron.

observed assertions include:

MAP_WIDE_ENTRY_PASS
NONFINITE_SNAPSHOT_REJECTION_PASS: 15 rejected; process globals unchanged
SNAPSHOT_CLOCK_SUPPRESSION_PASS: saved 0.5; map clock remained 0.6
SILENT_PAUSE_SUPPRESSION_PASS: 120 checks; 0 added toasts

SAVE_QUIT_MENU_PASS
SAVED_GAME_REENTRY_PASS
CHAPTER_RESTART_POLICY_PASS
MAP_EXIT_PREFERENCES_PASS
EVM_SUPPRESSION_PASS
MOTION_SUPPRESSION_PASS
EVM_RELEASE_PASS
MOTION_RELEASE_PASS
UNLOAD_PASS
PASS: 3238 engine updates; 2016 player updates; 16 level loads

normal and restricted timescale resets and EVM resets also retained the clean-attempt classification. the tested archive SHA-256 is dce4e958923d1d7c9053cf4de7958dc407fc4b04c75117b99379b9fccb0bc079.

live Celeste overlay with Freeze Gameplay suppressed by the map and the saved-preference notice

the live probe covers the paths listed above. it does not claim exhaustive visual/audio coverage of every registered feature or a human playtest.

the followup also passed native checks for all timescale disable/reset routes with owned and independently replaced clocks; cancelled and ordinary StartPos death restoration; stale death callbacks; same-session and new-session loader policy; and warning/error mirroring with Akron file logging suppressed. an isolated EVM copy with its randomizer observer renamed was reported unavailable, and attempted writes left EVM and vanilla settings unchanged.

Everest reported EVM 0.51.0 duplicate-hook warnings during integration toggles, also present in the earlier run. the ownership assertions passed; this is not a claim that the optional mod's logs are warning-free. the Raft verification container is stopped.

AI assistance disclosure

  • agent_name: omp
  • agent_version: 18.8.8
  • model_used: maisa-codex/gpt-6-astra
  • human_testing: none claimed. the requester explicitly asked the agent to test on the machine, file this PR and monitor it. the tests, live run and screenshot inspection above were agent-performed. human review/testing required by CONTRIBUTING.md remains outstanding; the license acknowledgment is also left for the contributor.
  • contribution_summary: added map-wide feature restrictions inside Akron while preserving saved preferences and releasing only Akron-owned effects.

Map authors can restrict registered Akron features across all rooms, and Akron enforces those restrictions without changing saved preferences.

  • Akron/featureRestrictions accepts exact, case-sensitive feature names; AkronPolicy and akron_status report the policy.
  • StartPos snapshots now use akron-reconstruction-v12; recapture older snapshots and re-export their packs.
  • The author reports 2,036 tests passed, 0 failed, and 0 skipped. Human review/testing and the contribution-license acknowledgment remain outstanding.

Walkthrough

Maps can declare Akron features that policy suppresses across rooms without changing saved preferences. Policy checks cover runtime effects, actions, overlays, integrations, and status reporting. Map transitions cancel pending work and release Akron-owned timing. StartPos snapshots now record timescale ownership in the v12 format; older snapshots must be recaptured and their packs re-exported.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 21526

Map-authored feature restrictions look broadly sound. Restart policy continuity and the Everest warning mirroring are both fixed. Three smaller concerns remain open and should be confirmed before or shortly after merge: Extended Variant Mode writes may depend on a private method, the Lönn placement label may not be packaged, and the audio thread reads policy state without synchronization.

Full details: Documentation Impact

Explanation

The PR changes the public StartPos snapshot contract from akron-reconstruction-v11 to akron-reconstruction-v12 and changes the snapshot filename prefix from v11- to v12- in Source/SaveLoad/akron-reconstruction-graph.cs. Several current user and reference documents still describe v11: docs/feature-guide/startpos.mdx:22,52,96, docs/reference/file-locations.mdx:15, docs/reference/community-pack-catalog.mdx:142, and docs/player-guide/community-packs.mdx:61. These files are unchanged by the PR. The updated archive and recovery documents do not correct these stale public references.

Resolution

Update the stale current-contract references to v12. In docs/feature-guide/startpos.mdx, describe the v12 clock-ownership data and map-restricted timescale behavior while retaining the v11 migration history only as historical context. Change the snapshot path and catalog/community-pack references in docs/reference/file-locations.mdx, docs/reference/community-pack-catalog.mdx, and docs/player-guide/community-packs.mdx from v11 to v12. Review other current v11 references, including docs/startpos-restore-verification.md, and update them or clearly mark them as historical.

Review comments at @Source/Core/akron-log.cs:
- Around line 264-268: Update the Write method so the Logging policy restriction
gates only the Akron log-file write, not the Everest mirror. Keep the
null-settings early return, and include
AkronPolicy.CanUse(AkronFeatureKind.Logging).Allowed in the writeToFile
condition alongside the existing settings and level checks, allowing configured
warning and error mirroring to proceed when file logging is restricted.

Review comments at @Source/Interop/akron-extended-variants.cs:
- Around line 91-101: Update BeginExternalChange so missing EVM randomizer types

normal hook setup when the method exists.

Review comments at @Source/Module/akron-module-map-policy.cs:

LevelEnter constructor handling, registering and unregistering the hook in the
module’s load and unload paths. Add a LevelLoader constructor handler that calls
EnterMapPolicy with the incoming session before invoking the original

during chapter reloads.

Review comments at @Source/Recorder/akron-internal-audio-recorder.cs:
- Around line 263-265: Remove the AkronPolicy.CanUse check from ReadAudio so the
FMOD mixer thread does not read shared map-policy state; rely on the game-thread
ApplyMapRestrictions flow to stop tracks.
