We're putting 2.0 work on hold and focusing on the 1.0x series. 1.02 is the next and only planned release.

2.0-dev/ was a copy of 1.02-dev/ that differed only in the version labels in the header, frontispiece, and preface, so removing it loses no content. No open PRs touch it.

This PR also removes the references to it:

  • README.md and RELEASE.md folder diagrams
  • CONTRIBUTING.md status section
  • AGENTS.md, which now points agents at 1.02 only instead of asking which release to target
  • 1.0/LOCKED.md and 1.01/LOCKED.md "future work" pointers. These are notes in the locked folders, outside the en/, dist/, and research/ paths the CI guard protects, and Remove the 2.0-dev folder until v1.01 is done #1107 made the same edit.
  • markdownlint and cspell path lists, and the error message in the released-version lock workflow

RELEASE.md still uses 2.0-dev/ as an example when describing how a future major would open, and README still uses v2.0 to illustrate the version scheme. Both describe the policy, not active work.

Checked locally: no remaining references to the folder, the workflow YAML parses, cspell passes on the changed docs, and markdownlint passes on README.

2.0 work is on hold. 1.02 is the next and only planned release, so
the 2.0-dev folder (a copy of 1.02-dev with different version labels)
is removed along with the references to it in the README, RELEASE.md,
CONTRIBUTING.md, AGENTS.md, the LOCKED.md notes, and the lint,
spell-check, and lock workflows.
