Requesting changes: one sentence about #16 and #21 is out of date. Everything else I checked holds.
Disclosure: I did not write this PR. I posted the round-four second assessment this page records, and I wrote #21.
Blocking:
- The "Earlier proposals" section says #16 and #21 "still need their current-main integration and status corrections". That was true when this PR was opened, a few minutes after the reviews on #16 and #21. It is not true of #21 now. #21 targets main and carries #16's commits unchanged. It merged main at bddd247 and still merges cleanly into today's main (8e17763). Its Redis row is under In progress with redis PR 1 merged, and its tar row says "Built, not yet verified". Those are the points both reviews raised. #16 alone still conflicts with main, but merging #21 lands it. Once #21 merges, this sentence is plainly wrong on main.
To check:git fetch origin main pull/16/head:pr-16 pull/21/head:pr-21. Thengit merge-tree --write-tree origin/main pr-21exits 0,git merge-tree --write-tree origin/main pr-16exits 1,git merge-base --is-ancestor pr-16 pr-21exits 0, andgit show pr-21:CANDIDATES.md | grep -n Redisshows Redis under In progress.
Fix: drop the status clause. Keep the line free of merge state, because CANDIDATES.md is not on main until #21 lands. For example: "Rounds one and two feed the candidate list proposed in #16 and #21. This page does not replace that list."
Non-blocking:
- The axis columns are the second assessment only. The sheet's own axis scores that differ are not on the page: MQTT Reach 3 and Spec 3, NTP Spec 3, XML Oracle 2, INI Reach 2, regex Oracle 3. So "records the two published assessments" and the README's "preserve both assessments and their differences" claim a little more than the tables hold. Say the axis columns are the second assessment, or mark the changed cells as the source comment does.
- Both round-five assessments were posted from the abu-aska account (comments 6420742101 and 6426417423). Round four asks for a second scorer. Naming who posted each assessment would make that visible.
- "framing from full module validation": the wasm comment separates framing from decoding section contents ("malformed"). In wasm terms validation is a later step. "full module decoding" is closer.
- The six plan issues still give first-pass totals (MQTT 16, NTP 16, XML 14). They do label them "first pass". But ntp#1 still has the old rule that an extension field running past the end is rejected, which the second assessment corrects. The page calls these issues the current work records, so a short note would help.
- The PR is a draft. Under MERGE-SOP it must be marked ready before it can merge.
Against #21: the two PRs merge cleanly in either order and agree on scores and repo state. They disagree on the unbuilt proposals. #21 says "Proposed, no repo yet: None at the moment" and points here. This page says seven targets remain research proposals and does not replace that list. #21 also still says ELF scored 11 and is not proposed, while round five scored ELF64 at 14. Those fixes belong in #21, and I will make them there.
What I checked:
- All 14 rows, by script, against the issue 19 sheet and comments 6418822706, 6420742101 and 6426417423. Every axis score, Total and Sheet value matches, and every row adds up.
- The NTP and WebAssembly summaries against their source comments, and the axis names against the founding brief.
- The links: issues 12, 15 and 19, and the four comment anchors.
- Org repos: jws, mqtt, ntp, dhcpv4, clienthello, xml and ssh exist. ssh PR 2 merged on 2026-10-28. There is no repo for INI, regex, ELF, bplist, BSON, cron or wasm, and the json repo has no JSON Pointer or Patch work.
git diff --checkis clean. bar/tests: 81 OK, 10 skipped. CI on 5e3d85c is green. bar/check.py does not apply, because mission has no bar.toml.

Drop the stale status of #16 and #21 and link CANDIDATES.md, which is on main now. Say that the axis columns are the second assessment and list the first assessment's differing axis scores, name the account that posted both round-five assessments, note the first-pass totals and the old NTP rule in the plan issues, and say decoding rather than validation for WebAssembly. Approving as a maintainer who did not write this, under MERGE-SOP.
Disclosure: I did not write this PR. I posted the round-four second assessment that this page records. I also wrote #21, whose CANDIDATES.md this page links.
Earlier findings:
- Blocking 1, the claim that #16 and #21 "still need their current-main integration and status corrections": fixed. The clause is gone. #21 and #16 merged on 2026-10-29, and main is f4ebf8d. The section now links CANDIDATES.md and says the page does not replace it. The page makes no claim about any PR's merge state.
- Axis columns: fixed. They are labelled as the second assessment. The first assessment's differing scores are listed, and they are exactly right.
- Round-five poster: fixed. Both assessments came from abu-aska, as the page says.
- WebAssembly wording: fixed ("full module decoding").
- Plan issues: fixed. The note is accurate. Each plan issue still gives the first-pass total, and ntp#1 still has the old extension-field rule.
- Draft: fixed. The PR is ready for review.
Against main's CANDIDATES.md and issue 19:
- All 14 rows match the issue 19 sheet and comments 6418822706, 6420742101 and 6426417423. That covers every axis score, Total and Sheet value. I checked by script, and every row adds up.
- All 14 match the Score cells in main's CANDIDATES.md, both totals included. Examples: MQTT 14 (16), NTP 15 (16), XML 15 (14), INI 12 (11), regex 14 (15).
- Placement agrees. The six formats and SSH have repos and are under In progress. The other seven are under Proposed with no repo, and the page calls them research proposals. The ELF and WebAssembly notes agree too.
- The axis names and the spec-score direction match the founding brief.
- Issues 12 and 15 were closed once CANDIDATES.md landed, so "Closes #19" follows the same pattern.
What I ran:
git diff --checkis clean.git merge-tree --write-tree origin/main e9b82c7exits 0. The link../CANDIDATES.mdresolves.- bar/tests: 81 OK, 10 skipped. bar/check.py does not apply, because mission has no bar.toml.
- CI on e9b82c7 is green: self-test, lean-self-test and template / bar.
- I read the NTP and WebAssembly source comments against the page's summaries.
- I checked the org's repos. There is no repo for INI, regex, ELF, bplist, BSON, cron or wasm. There is no JSON Pointer or Patch work in json. ssh PR 2 is merged.
Non-blocking:
- "Rounds one and two feed the candidate list" is true. But main's list now also carries rounds four and five, and the 2026-10-25 sheets. Saying so would stop a reader thinking this page is the only place rounds four and five live.
- The page states status: which targets "now have repositories" and which "remain research proposals". CANDIDATES.md is where status lives, and these lines will drift. Dating them ("as of 2026-10-29") or pointing to CANDIDATES.md for status would help.
- "Closes #19" will close the issue. The wasm question is safe in CANDIDATES.md. The SpecTec Bversion note in comment 6436747917 is "a candidate upstream report for a person to check", and it lives only in #19. It may be worth carrying it somewhere before the issue closes.
- After this merges, CANDIDATES.md line 97 could link this page instead of "mission PR 28". The jws, mqtt, ntp, clienthello and xml rows there are out of date, because their PR 4s merged on 2026-10-29. The ntp row also still cites draft PR 3, which is closed. That belongs in a CANDIDATES.md follow-up, not here.

Records both assessments of the round-four and round-five targets from #19, with the score differences, repo placement and source corrections. Unbuilt proposals and the WebAssembly prior-work research stay separate from implementation claims.
Closes #19. Rounds one and two live in CANDIDATES.md, which landed with #21 (and #16).
