What changed

  • add a complete Windows Classic semantic palette with system silver, navy selection, classic console colors, charts, and sidebar roles
  • let style profiles advertise an optional recommended day/night palette pair
  • show the Win98 recommendation in Settings as a preview with an explicit Use recommended colors action
  • keep style and color independent: selecting Win98 alone never overwrites the user's palette pair
  • restore the new palette in the pre-paint theme bootstrap and local preference normalization
  • document the recommendation contract and localize the new UI in all four supported languages

User impact

Users can keep their existing colors with the Win98 geometry, or explicitly apply the full Windows Classic look. The recommended action applies Windows Classic to both Day and Night because the original visual language has no separate dark variant.

Verification

  • npx tsc --noEmit
  • cd ui && npx tsc -b
  • pnpm test — 3910 passed, 9 skipped
  • pnpm -F open-alice-ui build
  • real pnpm dev browser walk: Settings preview/action, style-color independence, refresh persistence, Chat, session menu, delete dialog, Day/Night, and 390 px responsive layout
