I have been building software since 1991, in my own company from day one. Over the years that meant telecoms, finance, travel, media and associations – and a lot of projects where the people who need a system and the people who build it did not understand each other. That is where I like to work: I translate between both sides, and I still write the code.
- AI agents that improve real processes, not just digitise them – with MCP, RAG, logging and cost monitoring, and a human who makes the final call.
- TypeScript on both ends: React/Preact, Astro and Tailwind in front, serverless AWS (Lambda, CDK, DynamoDB) behind it.
- Modernising old systems without breaking what already works.
- Automated tests and monitoring instead of heroics.
- Accessibility and privacy from the first commit, not as an afterthought.
- The simplest thing that does the job. Not every problem needs AI – sometimes a script or a good spreadsheet is the better answer.
