Summary

  • The MCP server instructions grow from one sentence into a ~330-word guide. Clients such as Claude Code put this text into the agent's system prompt when they connect. It covers:
    • Tradition: slavic means OCA/ROCOR; greek means GOARCH/Antiochian.
    • Calendar: Gregorian (New) vs Julian (Old), and who uses which.
    • Dates: get_day always takes the civil date, and with calendar=julian it returns the church date, 13 days earlier. search_saints returns the church month/day, so Old-calendar users have to add 13 days before calling get_day. Feasts tied to Pascha aren't found by saint search.
    • Workflow: call search_saints, then get_day for the saint's full life and the readings.
    • Result fields: summary_title; the fasting fields, with a note that they follow the strict typikon; abbreviated_reading_indices; stories are HTML.
  • get_day's docstring now lists douay-rheims as a translation option.

Test plan

  • mcp_svc tests pass in Docker (9 tests)
  • get_day(2027, 1, 7, calendar='julian') returns 2026-12-25, Nativity of Christ
  • Connect a client to /mcp and check the new instructions appear

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Expand the server instructions from one sentence into a short guide:
which jurisdictions each tradition covers, New vs Old calendar, and the
civil-vs-church date offset (get_day takes the civil date; search_saints
returns the church month/day, 13 days behind the civil date on the Old
calendar). Also covers chaining search_saints into get_day and which
result fields to prefer.

Also list douay-rheims in get_day's translation docs.
