Getting Started

  1. Install the mod and start the game. Joining a world says in chat which key opens the BlockCompanion menu (B by default).
  2. A short guide opens by itself the first time you are in a world. The Guide button in the menu opens it again.
  3. Put a schematic in <game folder>/blockcompanion/schematics, press B, pick it and click Load. It appears in front of you as ghost blocks.
  4. Hold a stick (the selection tool), look at the schematic's box and Shift+scroll to move it, Ctrl+scroll to turn it.
  5. Build. Ghosts show only what differs from the world: missing blocks, red for a wrong block, orange for something in the way.

The tutorial world

The title screen has a BlockCompanion tutorial button (under Minecraft Realms). It opens a world where each step asks you to do one thing and says when you have.

  • Chapter 1, the basics: open the menu, hold the stick, move a hut onto its floor, lock it, fix a wrong block, clear a block in the way, build a porch with easy place, step through layers, open the resource list.
  • Chapter 2, your own schematics: load, turn, mirror and lock one, pick a ghost's block, link a chest, AutoBuild, share it on a server, and the live link to BlockDesigner.

Every step stays up at least 20 seconds. Enter goes on, Backspace goes back.

The guide's first page also has a short camera tour with a demo schematic in any world. Nothing in the world changes.
