Versioning is fully automated by semantic-release (adopted in 753f2ee); this checklist item predates that and no PR since has bumped package.json's version by hand. The dist/ checklist item stays, since CI doesn't actually enforce it (check-git-clean.sh exists but isn't wired into ci.yml).
