[Feature Request]: More options for lateral and header bar hiding

Describe your suggested feature

It's nice that you can hide the lateral and header bars, but I pop them up by accident far too often, especially the lateral bar. For example, if there are speech bubbles along the left side of the page in a double page spread, the speech bubbles are often small and hard to read. I need to either click the speech bubble to zoom in, or use the magnifier on it, but because the bubble is along the left side of the page, the lateral bar often pops up and gets in the way of reading the bubble.

I would like to see more options for the hiding behavior of these bars. Here are a few suggestions:

1. An option to only show these bars when you click in the area.
2. An option to set a configurable delay for these bars to pop up. Maybe anywhere from 2-5 seconds

I think the first suggestion is a better solution and probably easier to implement.

These bars auto popping up when hidden can be quite annoying at times, and even block you from reading speech bubbles at times. It's the only thing keeping me from switching over from ComicRack.

Although it's not quite the same, the nightly builds have a reduced activation area in fullscreen mode 1b34cfe. I've also slightly increased the delay before the bars appear 43cf3bf

I usually don't use OpenComic in fullscreen mode, but good to know. I will give the new Nightly a try and see if the delay helps, thanks.

The new nightly didn't really help. I tried fullscreen mode and the reduced activation area makes a big difference. The main problem in windowed mode is that the lateral bar activates way too early when you move your mouse towards the left side. Why not just give it the same activation area as fullscreen mode?

I would still like to see the option to always hide them unless you click in the areas if possible, but making the lateral bar activation in windowed mode more like the one in fullscreen would help quite a bit.

I often read in windowed mode so I can switch to music, browser, etc quickly, else I would just go fullscreen to get around this problem.

I'll add options to configure the delay, or to only activate it when clicking.

The reason the activation area is larger in windowed mode is that it's harder to keep the cursor at the edge when the window isn't touching any edge of the screen.

Alright, should I close this? Never really sure if I should close an issue on my own, or just let the developer do it.

You can keep it open if you want. Once it is available in the nightly builds, you can close it, but I also recommend keeping it open until it is available in a stable release.

I close issues when the feature/fix is available in a stable release.

I only close them earlier if the issue only occurs in the nightly build.

I've implemented the option to show the bars with a click and to configure the delay using the previous method (By only moving the cursor) 218fbd2. The click area is the same as when the bars are shown by moving the cursor, so in fullscreen mode you'll need to click at the edge of the screen. The option can be found under Reading preferences in the settings.
