Why: AIChat.module.css carried rules nothing renders. The comment-body
class matched no global rule (it is hashed inside Comments.module.css),
so its override only fought our own base padding.
What: removed unused AIChat classes, the comment-body class and its
override, and --ai-chat-messages-padding-top, which both surfaces set
to the default formula. The unitless 0 header fallback became 0px:
calc(0 + 24px) is invalid and zeroed the Cowork top inset.
Proof: stylelint passes. Playwright fixture chat measured on the POC
commit and after: Cowork 1440/900/1440 and overlay 700/320/700 show
the same paddings, spacer, chart sizes and no horizontal overflow.
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
Why: Cowork switched AIChat behaviour through CSS variables, and JS
read one of them back with getComputedStyle. The behaviour lived in a
stylesheet of another component, and two scroll listeners tracked the
same stick-to-bottom state.
What: AIChat takes scrollMode 'pinTurnToTop' (default) or
'stickToBottom'. One class drives the bottom-anchored layout and drops
the active-turn min-height; JS branches on the prop. One listener
tracks stick-to-bottom, only in that mode. Cowork passes the prop and
loses the three behaviour variables.
Proof: eslint and stylelint clean, tsc has no new errors. Playwright,
AI call blocked: after send Cowork stays 1px from the bottom, keeps
the user's scroll-up on resize; overlay pins the turn at 116px and
clamps scroll past the reply. Same numbers as before the change.
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
Why: extractA2UIMessages parses model output at the boundary and
retries lines whose quotes the model escaped. Nothing covered it.
What: spec for plain answers, non-string input, jsonl blocks, the
escaped-quotes retry and skipped broken or foreign lines.
Proof: 5 tests pass. With the retry removed, the escaped-quotes test
fails (run with --no-cache).
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
Chart sizing rules lived inline in condoCatalog and parsed the option
in several places. Move them to fitChartOption with named constants,
parse the option once at the boundary and cover the rules with specs.
Layout measurements in Cowork and overlay match the baseline.
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
AIContext and AIOverlay each declared the 320px overlay minimum.
Export it from AIContext and reuse it in AIOverlay so the stored width
clamp and the drag clamp cannot drift apart.
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
Row, card, column and chart host styles were inline objects rebuilt
on every render. Move the static rules into a CSS module and keep
inline only the weight-based flex and the measured chart size.
Cowork and overlay measurements match the baseline.
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
The chart measured every ancestor up to body because a fixed canvas
width used to stop the host from shrinking. The host is now constrained,
so its own content box is enough. Overlay at 320px and Cowork at 900px
still match the baseline.

Walkthrough
The AI chat now adjusts scrolling, content widths, generated UI, and charts to the available space. Overlay sizing uses a shared minimum width. CoworkLayout sets a localized document title.

The scroller reserves input clearance with a flex spacer. End-following is enabled when the reader is near the thread end, and is disabled when the reader scrolls away or an active turn is pinned. Message rows are observed for size changes.
Message, suggestion, and generated UI containers gain width constraints and wrapping styles. Assistant-answer parsing retries lines with escaped quotes after an initial JSON parse failure.

Chart options are parsed and fitted to the host width. ChartRenderer observes host width changes and resizes the chart.
Restore access to wide assistant tables before merging. Chart layout and scrolling also have bounded regressions: legends can overlap plots, custom grids are discarded, and readers can be pulled back to the bottom.

The new MutationObserver uses { childList: true, subtree: true } and calls observeRows on every matching mutation. observeRows runs querySelectorAll(':scope > *') and calls observe on every direct row. Assistant Markdown sits inside those rows, so streamed content can trigger the callback repeatedly. The work per callback grows with the number of mounted messages. The per-batch cost is small, so the effect is minor and mainly affects long threads.

The overflow-x: clip on .messages-container removes the horizontal scroll that the base scroller had. Wide markdown tables have no scroll wrapper, so their right side is clipped and cannot be viewed. Give .assistant-markdown its own horizontal scroll.

Do not let the bottom-pin flag swallow a reader's scroll.
Setting scrollTop at the bottom fires no scroll event, so ignoreEndScrollRef stays true. If the reader leaves the bottom in one scroll event, that event clears the flag without updating keepEndInViewRef. A later resize or row update then scrolls back to the end. Recompute keepEndInViewRef from the distance on every scroll event.

observeRows observes each current child of the messages container but never unobserves a row that has left it. A session switch with no active turn replaces the rows without re-running this effect, so the removed rows stay in messagesObserver's target list. That list keeps them reachable until the next turn starts or the component unmounts.

Wrapped legend rows at wide widths overlap the plot.
At width >= 480, fitLegend sets the legend width to the host width and keeps bottom: 0. fitChartOption reserves a single legend row, LEGEND_ROW_HEIGHT (22px), and sets the grid bottom to GRID.bottom + legendHeight. The plain horizontal legend wraps entries onto additional rows once they exceed the legend width. Because the legend is bottom-anchored, those extra rows grow upward into the plot area. The reserved height is fixed at one row, but the wrapped row count depends on label widths that this code does not measure.
A single label wider than the host width is not wrapped. It starts at the left edge and extends past the right edge of the chart. The plain legend text has no width or overflow setting, so it is not truncated.

Keep a supplied grid when fitChartOption applies defaults.
fitChartOption builds the fitted option with ...option and then sets grid to one default object. Any grid in the supplied A2UI chart option is replaced, including a custom grid or an array of grids. Before this change, ChartRenderer passed the supplied grid through unchanged. A chart that defines its own grid layout now renders with the default layout. Axes bound to a non-default gridIndex can lose their intended placement.
