Bring back iOS 18-style Slide Over on iPadOS 26.

Features

• Restore SpringBoard's built-in legacy “Medusa” multitasking path instead of the new flexible-windowing interface.
• Fix the black floating window caused by live-content occlusion in that legacy path.
• Keep floating-window shadow corners aligned with the system's corner geometry.
• Restore native top controls and adjust their centring and expansion fit within the reserved top strip. This adjustment still needs visual and interaction testing.

Usage

Add the package source to your package manager and install Slide Over Back (com.lakr233.slideoverback) for your bootstrap, then respring. Use the system's Slide Over interface; there is no separate app or settings pane.

The tweak hooks SpringBoard only, but its multitasking changes affect hosted apps and the windowing interface as a whole. It is not a standalone floating-window implementation.

Compatibility & Verification

• Development device: iPad8,10 (arm64e), iPadOS 26.0.1, roothide.
• User-confirmed on that device: Slide Over returns, the floating window is no longer black, and its corners and shadows are rounded.
• Build targets: roothide (arm64e) and rootless (arm64 + arm64e). Rootless builds successfully but has not been validated on a rootless device.
• Runtime geometry logs support the top-controls centring and expansion-fit adjustment; they do not prove correct appearance or interaction.

Not verified: the latest top-controls appearance, expansion animation, menu hit testing and actions; dragging, rotation, keyboard, hide/show, window-mode transitions, external displays, and other devices or iPadOS versions.

Experimental: the tweak relies on private SpringBoard interfaces that Apple may change in any update. The iOS 16.0 deployment target is a build setting, not a claim of iPadOS 16–18 compatibility.

Building & Layout

Build with Apelin using apelin-project.json. Bind a compatible registered toolchain and SDK on your device; the current configuration uses CLT 15.3 and the iOS 17.4 SDK. Build Release packages separately for roothide and rootless. The package depends on mobilesubstrate.
