I'd like to contribute a Node Feature Discovery (NFD) compatibility scraper under the Contributor Program.
I checked the current utils/compatibility/scrapers catalog and searched the repository for node-feature-discovery; I did not find an existing scraper or a competing issue/PR for NFD.
Proposed sources and scope
NFD publishes first-party compatibility and release information suitable for a source-backed scraper:
If the scope is wanted, I propose a focused contribution containing:
- a registered NFD compatibility scraper;
- generated compatibility YAML and manifest metadata;
- application, source/release, Helm and icon metadata in the format expected by the existing catalog;
- deterministic tests for release selection, version normalization, malformed inputs and Kubernetes-version range handling;
- source links showing how every compatibility entry is derived.
I would keep the data conservative and source-backed, without inventing historical compatibility or presenting undocumented Kubernetes versions as tested.
Questions before implementation
- Is Node Feature Discovery currently a useful/available contribution and, if accepted and merged, would this scope be eligible for the README's $300 new compatibility scraper award?
- Is NFD's official OCI Helm chart acceptable for the catalog's Helm metadata requirement?
- If my GitHub account is not yet vouched, could a write collaborator please vouch it if this contribution is in scope so that I can open the implementation PR?
- Please confirm that the contributor reward is currently active and can be claimed by a contributor based in Spain through the documented verification process.
The implementation and tests would be AI-assisted with OpenAI ChatGPT/Codex and that assistance will be disclosed. Acceptance, merge and any reward remain subject to maintainer review; I am not claiming a reservation or payment before confirmation.
