Issue/539 Take the debugbar out of the app flow and the packages that feed it - #592
Conversation
Debugger::render() writes the registered event listeners into the events tab itself, once per render, and PrepareRequestStage no longer writes to the debugger.
The debugger store creates a tab on its first write, so the web boot no longer initializes it, and the App package no longer references the Debugger package.
…rs and drop the Debugger from the View
…data straight to the debugbar tabs
…d it into the debugbar mails tab
…d the packages in the changelog
…d database, and tidy the Debugger

- Around line 197-204: Update Debugger::mailLog() to gather transport logs from
every retained mailer instance rather than calling mailer() with the default
adapter. Add or use MailerFactory::getInstances() to expose its cached
instances, merge each instance’s adapter transport log, and preserve the
existing warning-entry mapping and empty behavior.

Closes #539
What changed
One direction: no package outside
Quantum\Debuggerreferences the debugger any more. Each package keeps its own state, andDebugger::render()reads it when the toolbar renders:messagesMessageAdapter::getMessages()queriesDatabase::queryLog(), only when the request started the database, it is still connected and the adapter keeps a logroutesrequest()->getMatchedRoute()andView::getViewFile()eventsevent()->getRegistered()mailsmailer()->getAdapter()->getTransportLog(), only when the request used the mailerOne rule for every tab: each tab shows the entries written with
debugbar()->addToStoreCell()first, then what is collected at render. The collected entries go straight to the collector; the store keeps only the direct writes andrender()never writes to or clears it.App:
InitDebuggerStageis removed from the web boot (the store creates a tab on its first write), andPrepareRequestStageno longer writes the listeners.View: no
Debuggerdependency; the constructor is(Renderer, AssetManager, ViewCache)andgetViewFile()returns the last view rendered withrender().Logger:
MessageAdapterkeeps[level => message]in memory and no longer reads$context['tab'].Mailer:
MailerInterface::getTransportLog(), implemented inMailerTrait, returns the errors of failed sends and, for SMTP in debug mode, the exchange with the server. A failed send is still logged as a warning.SmtpAdapterchecksis_debug_mode().Changelog: the 3.1.0 entry describes the change against 3.0.3; three lines under "Fixed".
Why
The App, View, Logger and Mailer packages pushed data into one optional integration, so the debugbar was wired into every request, view, log line and mail. Pushing also lost data quietly whenever a refactor dropped a write:
routestab has shown only the view path since the 3.0 routing rewrite removed the router's write;queriestab has been empty since the 2.6.0 hooks rework removed its write;mailstab, becauseSmtpAdaptercheckedconfig()->get('debug'), a key that is never set.Reading the state at render time needs no event listeners: a listener would need a place to be registered, and the framework helpers load before
event()exists and only once per process.Breaking changes
InitDebuggerStage(Quantum\App\Stages\InitDebuggerStagein 3.0.3) is removed; code that wants the tabs up front can calldebugbar()->initStore().View::__construct()no longer takes aDebugger. Code that gets the view throughview()orViewFactoryis unaffected.MailerInterfacegainsgetTransportLog(). The built-in adapters get it fromMailerTrait; a custom adapter that implements the interface without the trait must add it.['tab' => ...]is listed in themessagestab; code that wants another tab writes withdebugbar()->addToStoreCell().debugbar()->getStoreCell('messages')returns only direct writes; log lines are read withlogger()->getAdapter()->getMessages().Testing
DebuggerTestchecks what each tab's collector receives: the data of every tab, a tab's stored entries before the collected ones and the store left unchanged, nothing when the debug bar is disabled, and no database connection or mailer built when the request did not use them (also for a disconnected database and one whose constructor failed).MessageAdapterTest,LoggerTestandLoggerHelperFunctionsTestreadgetMessages(); the mailer tests cover the transport log of a failed send (and that it is still logged), the SMTP exchange in debug mode and no exchange outside it;ViewTestcoversgetViewFile().The tests that only proved the stages, the adapter and the view wrote to the debugger are removed or moved to
DebuggerTest. The new tests failed before each change.Checked on the starter project with this branch and with
master: the web requests (/,/api/posts, OPTIONS, 404 as HTML and JSON) and the console cases (valid, missing and malformed.env) give identical results; the home page is larger only by the route data in the toolbar. With a temporary listener that logs a line, runs a query and tries an SMTP send to a closed port, the toolbar shows onmaster/ on this branch:masterNotes for reviewers
mailstab reads the default mailer only; errors of another adapter still reach themessagestab through the failed-send warning.Summary by CodeRabbit
