What are you trying to build?
For basic usage patterns, it is oftentimes useful to treat a set of objects as a ‘group’, so that they can be easily selected, moved and scaled together. Most available boards and similar software offer such a feature.
The currently available selection mechanism is fundamentally weaker: with overlaps or object being closed to one another, selecting just the right subset is tedious.
Proposed solution
I have not yet acquainted myself with the API well enough to offer a solution.
