A compact four-key macropad designed primarily for digital art shortcuts.
- Four programmable macro keys for common digital art actions: undo, redo, copy, and paste
- A two-piece 3D-printed enclosure
- An integrated keychain ring, so I can attach it to my backpack---or my Hackpack... heh, get it?
- RGB LEDs for some cool lighting effects
- Designed and built in a single day
- What else do you want me to say? It has four keys, and they do things.
The enclosure consists of two separately printed pieces held together using four M3 screws and nuts. The PCB fits into an internal slot and will likely be secured with adhesive during final assembly.
The case was designed in Onshape.
The PCB was designed in KiCad and uses four Cherry MX-compatible switches, four addressable RGB LEDs, and a Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 as the controller.
I used the standard Cherry MX footprint for the switches.
SinnerPad runs on KMK firmware. I chose KMK because its Python-based configuration was much easier for me to understand than the QMK documentation; yes, there may have been some sobbing involved.
From left to right, the four keys are configured as:
- Undo -
Ctrl + Z - Redo -
Ctrl + Y - Copy -
Ctrl + C - Paste -
Ctrl + V
I’ll definitely iterate on this design later---or make an entirely new macropad, since I now actually know how to build one.
