Verify the release signature; fix the README's Terraform example - #2
Conversation
Releases from v0.5.0 on publish checksums.txt.sigstore.json. When it exists, the action verifies it with cosign against the release workflow's identity at the release tag before trusting checksums.txt, and fails if a v0.5.0+ release has no bundle. Releases before v0.5.0 keep the checksum-only check. cosign is taken from PATH, or v3.1.3 is downloaded and checked against a pinned SHA-256 (a JavaScript action cannot call sigstore/cosign-installer). "latest" is resolved to its tag so the identity names the exact release. New input verify-signature (default true) turns the check off. The Terraform example no longer sets skip_credentials_validation and skip_requesting_account_id: HomeCloud implements STS.

Signature verification. HomeCloud releases from v0.5.0 on publish
checksums.txt.sigstore.json, a Sigstore bundle made by keyless signing in the release workflow. The action now verifies it before trustingchecksums.txt:latestis resolved to its tag first (from the /releases/latest redirect), so the identity is exact and every file comes from the same release.PATH(e.g. from sigstore/cosign-installer), otherwise cosign v3.1.3 is downloaded from its GitHub release and checked against SHA-256s pinned insetup.sh. This is a JavaScript action (for the post step), so it cannot call sigstore/cosign-installer itself.verify-signature(defaulttrue);falsechecks the checksum only, e.g. on runners that cannot reach Sigstore.HC_INSTALL_ONLY=1stopssetup.shafter the install, for tests. test.yml gets aninstallmatrix: latest and v0.5.0 (signed), v0.4.1 (unsigned), v0.5.0 with the check off.test/inputs.shcovers the new input.README. The Terraform example set
skip_credentials_validationandskip_requesting_account_id, which are not needed (HomeCloud implements STS); it now sets onlys3_use_path_style, matching the mirror in solinode/homecloudintegrations/github-action. The inputs table and the intro list cover the signature check, and a new Release verification section explains it.Tested locally (macOS arm64): v0.5.0 verifies with the downloaded cosign; v0.4.1 installs with the checksum only; latest with
