Updates eframe from 0.36.1 to 0.37.0

Release notes

Sourced from eframe's releases.

0.37.0 - Colored emojis! 🚀

egui is an easy-to-use immediate mode GUI for Rust that runs on both web and native.

Try it now: https://www.egui.rs/

egui development is sponsored by Rerun, a startup building an SDK for visualizing streams of multimodal data.

Highlights ✨

Emoji and glyph support

egui can now render any glyph that is supported on your system, including colored emojis and non-Latin scripts.

To enable this, the integration has to use one of two APIs:

  • Context::add_glyph_rasterizer(GlyphRasterizer): a GlyphRasterizer renders a single glyph. eframe uses this on web to render individual glyphs to an off-screen canvas #8490, #8545.
  • Context::add_font_provider(Arc<dyn FontProvider>): lets egui find and load whole fonts at runtime. Native eframe uses this through the new egui_system_font_provider crate, which lists system fonts with fontique #8512.

Completion popup

We've added a new CompletionPopup widget that adds autocomplete to a TextEdit. You can use it e.g. to add emoji selection like in discord:

Screen.Recording.2026-10-15.at.16.05.41.mov

Experimental theme customizations

This release adds a theme plugin system #8153 by @AdrienZianne. Enable the new experimental feature flag, and there will be a new StyleProvider trait, which can be used to customize visuals for a widget based on the provided classes.

/// Implement the trait for each Widget you'd like to customize
impl StyleProvider<ButtonStyle> for MyTheme {
  fn style(&mut self, args: &StyleArgs<'_>) -> ButtonStyle {
    // You could construct ButtonStyle from scratch, or extend eguis built in style:
    let mut style: ButtonStyle = DefaultStyle.style(args);
    if args.has_class("primary") {
      style.atom_layout.frame.fill = hex_color!("#FF0000");
    }
    style
  }
}
/// Register all your custom style providers
fn init(ctx: &Context) {
ctx.add_widget_theme::<ButtonStyle>(MyTheme);
</tr></table>

Record videos of integration tests

Reading an integration test to understand what its doing can be challenging, so we've added a egui_kittest/video feature that records a mp4 video from it, using ffmpeg! Enable it and pass EGUI_KITTEST_RECORD=1 or EGUI_KITTEST_RECORD=open, and a video of the test will be recorded. This is an example from one of our more complex rerun integration tests:

Changelog

Sourced from tray-icon's changelog.

[0.26.1]

  • 59dd8d9 (#379) On Linux, when using KSNI backend, disable owning a dbus name when in a sandboxed environment

[0.26.0]

  • 930505e (#377 by @amrbashir) Add TrayIcon::set_icon_templated and TrayIconBuilder::with_icon_templated on macOS, which set the icon and draw it as a template image in one call, so the template flag can never be left describing an icon that has since been replaced. Also add TrayIcon::icon_is_template to read that state back.

    Deprecate TrayIcon::set_icon_as_template, TrayIcon::set_icon_with_as_template and TrayIconBuilder::with_icon_as_template in favour of them. TrayIcon::set_icon now also clears TrayIconAttributes::icon_is_template, which used to keep saying true for an icon it no longer described.

  • b83ee71 (#374 by @amrbashir) Support activating predefined menu items in the KSNI backend, e.g. About, items that muda has no action for on this platform render disabled.

  • 3e67801 (#372 by @yamanahlawat) On Linux and BSD, the KSNI backend no longer fails to build a tray icon when no org.kde.StatusNotifierWatcher is on the session bus yet. The icon registers when the watcher appears, as the AppIndicator backend does. Before, an app that starts before the panel got an error and had no icon for the session.

  • 1e4f17d (#317 by @ericwang915) Add TrayIconBuilder::with_autosave_name and TrayIconAttributes::autosave_name, which set NSStatusItem.autosaveName on macOS. macOS already restores where the user ⌘+dragged a tray icon on the next launch, keyed by the order in which the process created its status items (Item-0, Item-1, and so on); an autosave name replaces that generated key with a stable one, so an application that creates several tray icons, or that creates one conditionally, does not have icons come back holding each other's positions. Ignored on Linux and Windows.

  • b83ee71 (#374 by @amrbashir) Update muda to 0.21

  • c85f2c9 (#373 by @ancwrd1) Add TrayIconBuilder::with_native_icon, TrayIcon::set_native_icon and TrayIconAttributes::native_icon to use a platform-native icon (muda::NativeIcon, re-exported as tray_icon::NativeIcon) for the tray icon.

  • b83ee71 (#374 by @amrbashir) Breaking change Remove the muda-libxdo Cargo feature, which was enabled by default. muda no longer has a libxdo feature: its predefined Copy, Cut, Paste and SelectAll items now work without one, and no longer need libxdo-dev to build.

  • cd26ec9 (#378 by @amrbashir) Add TrayIcon::builder, which returns a new TrayIconBuilder, so a tray icon can be built without naming the builder type.

[0.25.1]

[0.25.0]

  • c648db3 (#201 by @dfaust) Add a GTK-free ksni StatusNotifierItem backend for Linux and BSD.
  • c1990d6 (#361 by @amrbashir) Separate the Linux/BSD libappindicator and ksni tray backends from muda's GTK backend features, and expose muda features with a muda- prefix.
  • 1c23131 (#352 by @Legend-Master) On macOS, updated objc2-* dependencies to 0.3.2
  • 95fc3cc (#366 by @dylanh724) Add TrayIconBuilder::with_guid / TrayIconAttributes::guid to register the icon with a stable NOTIFYICONDATA.guidItem on Windows, so the user's "always show in taskbar" setting survives the executable being replaced by an update.
