feat(inventory)!: reconcile hosts and placement - #32
Reconcile source-qualified hardware, OS, boot and interface evidence through bounded comparisons and atomic, reviewed identity corrections. Preserve independent source mappings, scoped visibility and reversible decisions.
Record completed VM migrations through desktop dragging or phone destination selection while preserving the guest and its components. Keep root browsing bounded with visibility applied before exact totals and stable pagination.
Validate explicit DNS, mailbox, phone and contact URL values across the persistent API and interface, with shared field permissions, current-only storage and format upgrades. Preserve free labels and opaque provider identities.
Validation
Disk-backed nextest regressions, warning-denied Clippy, alloc-only compilation, Rust/TypeScript interoperability and real-host Chromium desktop/mobile checks. Required CI exercises the full suite and native platform matrix.
BREAKING CHANGE: A VM accepts one current RUNS_ON placement; update its existing relation to record another host. Existing ambiguous placements require explicit resolution. Stores upgrade to format 13 and cannot be reopened with older binaries.
- Reconcile source-qualified hardware, OS, boot and interface evidence through bounded comparison and reviewed identity correction.
- Record completed VM migrations with desktop and phone controls while preserving guest components and independent authority.
- Keep inventory retrieval bounded and validate typed DNS and contact values without redefining labels or provider identities.
Closes#30
BREAKING CHANGE: VMs accept one current RUNS_ON placement. Stores upgrade to format 13 and reject older binaries.
Added tools to compare host identity evidence, find candidate records, resolve retained references, and review, apply, or reverse identity corrections.
Added reviewed virtual-machine placement changes, with eligible-host selection and a preview of affected inherited responsibilities.
Added DNS name fields and filters, plus typed contact, sender, and recovery-route inputs.
Host reports now show identity evidence and address changes, and can identify unresolved legacy source attribution.
Bug Fixes
Host identity collection now checks that identity evidence remains consistent before producing a report.
Host reports now inspect selected containers in a single verified batch.
Documentation
Expanded inventory and storage guidance for identity reviews, placement changes, typed values, and supported upgrades.
This change adds typed locator and DNS validation, source-qualified host identity evidence, reviewed identity comparison and correction with bounded reversal, and reviewed VM placement updates. It also updates storage migrations, native collection, protocol contracts, web workflows, Docker inspection, browsing, CI, and tests.
Native collection emits hardware and installation claims. Host imports store source-qualified evidence, expose address deltas, and mark unresolved legacy bindings.
Reviewed VM placement crates/omloom-store/src/disk/workspace/vm_placement.rs, crates/omloom-store/src/disk/inventory.rs, crates/omloom-store/src/disk/operations.rs, crates/omloom-store/src/disk/workspace/software.rs, web/app/VmPlacement.vue
Adds review and recording of VM host placement changes. The workflow checks permissions, roles, revisions, pending operations, cycles, and placement-bound responsibility.
Collector and browsing updates crates/omloom-observe/src/runtime.rs, crates/omloom-store/src/disk/workspace/assets.rs, web/browser/inventory.spec.mjs, .github/workflows/ci.yml, web/tests/docker-template.test.mjs
Docker inspection batches selected container IDs and validates returned identities. Workspace browsing queries, pagination checks, browser coverage, and CI test setup are updated.
structured-world/omloom#25: Adds native host collection and reviewed host-report import extended here with identity claims.
structured-world/omloom#17: Establishes VM placement on software-installation hypervisors, extended here with reviewed updates.

Explanation
Issue [#30] coding requirements are addressed. The PR adds source-qualified host identity evidence, bounded authorized candidate and comparison flows, reviewed atomic corrections with revision checks, bounded reversal, removal fences, and unresolved-effect checks. It preserves separate installation and interface evidence and supports source-specific address updates. VM placement uses conditional RUNS_ON mutation, preserves the guest and components, checks authorization, revisions, cycles, exclusivity, and pending operations, and avoids inferred network or storage membership. Root browsing applies visibility before bounded totals and pagination. Persistent-store, desktop, phone, and browser tests cover the required correction, placement, visibility, concurrency, restart, restore, and no-op cases.

Explanation
The PR includes typed locator and DNS/account metadata work that issue [#30] does not request. This includes typed_values.rs, LocatorInput.vue, DNS-name fields, responsibility contact kinds, account sender and recovery-route kinds, libphonenumber-js, related schema changes, and their tests and documentation. These changes do not implement host identity reconciliation, VM placement, or bounded root browsing.
Resolution
Remove the typed locator, DNS-name, sender, recovery-route, and contact-kind changes, or link an active issue that defines their coding requirements.

Add a test that prepares a move away from a host whose hypervisor role was cleared.
No placement test clears the hypervisor role of the current host and then prepares a move. The only role change in placement_review_rechecks_old_host_context_role_and_revision is on the destination. The existing contexts test disables the role on a placed host but never prepares a review. A regression that adds a hypervisor-role check to the current host in workspace_prepare_vm_placement would therefore pass the suite. Add a test that disables the role on the placed host, then asserts that preparing a move to a second hypervisor succeeds.

No test renders the current .NetworkSettings.Networks range, so removing that range would leave the suite green. The named-pipe test also uses mocked inspect JSON and does not exercise the template.

Add a test that renders the inspect template’s `.NetworkSettings.Networks` range
against mocked inspect JSON containing network attachments, and assert the
rendered output includes those attachments. Extend the existing template test
near the `template` lookup so it fails if the range is removed; do not rely only
on the check rejecting the old whole-network expression.

Preserve explicitly reviewed labels before applying broader prefix rewrites. Add a regression covering both choice orders and unaffected descendant labels.
Keep candidate items and context unchanged when the search is edited during a request. Extend the delayed real-request desktop and phone regression to check the complete retained result set.
Exercise the actual Docker formatter against a bounded synthetic API using the existing Node test suite. Verify both network attachments, IPv4 and IPv6 fields, escaped names and empty networks without a daemon or user contexts.
@coderabbitai The body-only coverage gaps are addressed in 9bcbd4d and ef3af83. Placement review now has a regression for moving away from a host whose hypervisor role was cleared, checking both host identities and no writes. The Docker test renders the production template using the actual Docker CLI against an isolated synthetic API, checks both network attachments and empty networks, and runs in the existing Node gate. It needs no daemon, containers or additional language toolchain.
Typed DNS and contact validation is intentional scope in this PR, as described in its Summary. It remains included alongside the host identity and placement work.
For best results, initiate chat on the files or code changes.
@polaz Thanks for adding the regressions in 9bcbd4d and ef3af83.
The reported coverage addresses the two concerns:
Placement review covers leaving a host after its Hypervisor role is cleared, checks both host identities, and confirms no writes.
Docker coverage renders the production template with the actual Docker CLI against an isolated synthetic API. It covers populated and empty networks within the existing Node gate.
I have not independently verified the commits or test results in this reply.
I accept that typed DNS and contact validation is intentional scope for #32. I withdraw the recommendation to remove those changes on scope grounds.

Select the longest matching source prefix in renamed.
renamed applies the first prefix match in list order. With choices Survey → A and Survey / routes → B, the name Survey / routes / leaf becomes A / routes / leaf when Survey comes first. It becomes B / leaf when the order is reversed. Select the longest matching before prefix instead.

The test clears the first host's Hypervisor role and then reviews a move to the second host. It stops after prepare, so no test in this file records a move after the current host's role is cleared. Add the record step so the test covers the move itself, then assert that the VM's placement now targets the second host.

@coderabbitai Both follow-up items are addressed. Source renaming selects the longest matching label prefix, preserves exact-match precedence and respects segment boundaries without allocating a prefix string for each rule. The regression was reproduced before the fix and now passes in both mapping orders.
The placement test now records the reviewed move after the old host loses its hypervisor role and asserts the destination host. The persistent-store scenario and focused rename tests pass, along with formatting and warning-denied Clippy.

@polaz Thanks for addressing both follow-up items.
Source renaming now uses the longest matching prefix, preserves exact-match precedence, and respects segment boundaries. You report that the regression passes in both mapping orders.
The placement regression now commits the reviewed move after the old host loses its Hypervisor role and checks the destination host.
