feat(inventory)!: support partial equipment facts - #35
Record physical equipment before its exact model is known, then refine it without changing resource identity. Keep classification, quantities and installed components distinct.
Support bounded model alternatives, source-qualified references and supported exclusions through persistent current fields, the API, desktop/mobile editing and lossless CSV transfer. Preserve source conflicts, permissions, residual uncertainty and the distinction between probabilities and uncalibrated scores. Identical or reordered claims do not create inventory history.
Testing
Focused storage, presentation, Clippy and desktop/mobile Chromium checks pass on macOS. CI runs the full Linux contract/storage/browser suite, doctests, the no-std target and native macOS/Windows observation checks.
BREAKING CHANGE: Storage format 14 requires updated binaries and regenerated clients. Existing supported stores upgrade on open; older binaries cannot read the new format.
Keep bounded quantities, model alternatives and exclusions in current fields. Add scoped inspection, refinement and lossless CSV transfer without changing resource identity.

📝 Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Device records can now capture partial equipment details, including quantity ranges, model references, alternatives, and exclusions.
Refine equipment information over time without changing a device’s identity.
View equipment details in the asset editor and include them in workspace imports and exports.
Documentation
Added guidance on recording uncertain equipment details, supported limits, and import/export formats.
The change adds typed equipment claims for quantities, model references, alternatives, and exclusions. It integrates claim validation, canonical encoding, storage, workspace import and export, and web editing. Device equipment fields can be refined while preserving the existing asset identity.
Changes: Partial equipment claims
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Claim contract and validation proto/omloom/v1/contracts.proto, crates/omloom-contracts/*
The protobuf contract adds equipment claims. Shared validation checks field rules, bounds, references, alternatives, probability data, and encoded size. Encoding normalizes quantities and orders alternatives.
Inventory persistence and workspace paths crates/omloom-store/src/disk*, crates/omloom-store/tests/workspace/equipment.rs
The store encodes equipment values in inventory rows and includes them in field hashes. Workspace validation, field visibility, projections, and CSV import/export handle equipment fields. Tests cover permissions, revisions, persistence, concurrency, restore, and CSV exchange.
Equipment editing and display web/app/*, web/browser/inventory.spec.mjs
The web editor adds equipment knowledge controls and blocks saves when equipment input is invalid. Field options and claim formatting include equipment values. Browser tests cover editing, refinement, CSV exchange, and conflicting references.
Documentation and supporting validation README.md, docs/*, crates/omloom-store/benches/retrieval.rs, crates/omloom-store/src/disk/tests/*
Documentation describes equipment claims, CSV encoding, and storage format 14. Supporting tests cover format upgrade and canonical encoding benchmarks.
structured-world/omloom#14: Adds workspace field, permission, revision, CSV, and browser paths that this change extends for equipment claims.
structured-world/omloom#23: Adds software-field validation that this change extends to equipment fields.
structured-world/omloom#12: Establishes workspace field and exchange contracts used by this equipment integration.
Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review f60db
Resolve compatibility for existing equipment evidence and empty bay-count CSV cells before merging. Otherwise, some existing assets cannot be saved unchanged and partially identified devices fail CSV round trips. Smaller editor-validation and display issues also remain.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "feat(inventory)!: support partial equipment facts" matches the main change. The changeset adds equipment claims (bounded quantities, model references, alternatives, exclusions) as persistent current fields across proto, contracts, store, API, web UI, CSV transfer, and docs. The conventional-commit prefix and breaking-change marker match the storage format 14 change. The title is short, specific, and free of file lists or vague terms.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The pull request implements the coding requirements in #34. It adds typed bounded equipment claims for quantities, model references, alternatives, and exclusions. It preserves uncertainty, source and interpretation metadata, conflicts, permissions, revisions, and device identity. It adds persistent storage, API validation, desktop/mobile editing, CSV import/export, upgrade handling, and tests for no-op reordering, concurrency, denied access, restart, restore, and real-browser desktop and phone workflows. The summary does not show recognition, catalog acquisition, fit evaluation, or automatic component creation.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The reported changes stay within #34. Contract, validation, storage, workspace, web editor, CSV, documentation, benchmarks, and test changes directly support partial equipment recording and refinement. The schema version update and generated-client compatibility work support persistence and API delivery. No unrelated product behavior is identified.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The pull request description states the goal of recording physical equipment before its exact model is known and refining it without changing resource identity. It names the affected areas: persistent current fields, the API, desktop/mobile editing, and CSV transfer. The changeset matches these areas: the equipment contract, storage schema 14, the web editor components, and the CSV exchange code. It also lists testing performed and a breaking change note. The description is specific and related to the changeset, so the check passes.

Add a browser case for an equipment field the user cannot read or write.
The equipment browser test runs with the default operator fixture and no grants file. Its model edits save successfully, so model is writable for that fixture. The test never opens the editor as a user whose grants exclude model. Other browser tests in this spec already pass restricted grants to host(dir,'operator',grants). Add a restricted-grant case in the same way. Then assert that the equipment editor shows no model control and that saving does not change model.
The current code already excludes denied fields. The editor builds its equipment list from the server-prepared actions.value?.fields, renders EquipmentField only for names in that list, and submits equipment changes only for names in that list. The store-level test covers denial below the UI, but no browser or editor test covers it.

'operator', grants) to deny access to model. Verify the equipment editor exposes
no model control and that saving leaves the resource’s model unchanged; retain
the existing default-operator coverage.
Cover excluded models in the store CSV round-trip.
The store round-trip test compares full fields, so candidates and residual mass are already covered. Its possibilities() fixture has no excluded entries, so a regression that drops an exclusion during CSV transfer would still pass. The browser scenario exports only the refined reference, so it does not exercise alternatives transfer. Add an exclusion to the store fixture instead of adding a browser assertion.

Update the store CSV round-trip test to include an exclusion in its

Ensure the exclusion has representative value, reason, and coverage data so the
full-field comparison verifies exclusions survive CSV transfer; do not add a
browser assertion.

Preserve absent CSV facts and unchanged legacy claims while validating changed values and authority. Check query field permissions before decoding payloads. Disambiguate model references and uncertainty labels, and validate UTF-8 input before submission. Add regression and restricted-access coverage, including lossless exclusion transfer.
